Someone describes tragedy in this way: the author carefully constructs a beautiful, well-loved vase in front of the reader a little bit, and then swings a hammer at the vase and smashes it to smithereens. I also swung a hammer at the vase during the shenanigans, but it was the hammer that shattered.
